Sean Hannity Freedom Concert in Las Vegas

Image from source, KXNT

On my way to work and back home, I often listen to one of the Las Vegas right-wing talk radio stations, KXNT. Yeah, I guess I'm something of a glutton for punishment, but it's a short trip and it lets me speak honestly about what "the other side" is up to.

KXNT has recently rebranded themselves, gotten new music bumpers, and a new logo, all to reinforce their new slogan, News Radio 840 KXNT. They follow that with the motto, Voices You Know. News You Trust. This strikes me as odd, because KXNT is not a news radio station, it is a talk radio station. Their prime attractions are Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin. The news they do offer is from CBS News--which is decidedly not trusted by arch conservatives. I should not be surprised that they'd use Frank Luntz-ian branding, I suppose.

Coinciding with their new image, KXNT is hosting one of Sean Hannity's "Freedom Concerts" in May. The concert is being held at The Orleans Arena, otherwise known as the place music goes to die. Acts like The Turtles, and The Righteous Brothers Brother are the typical draws. KXNT is hyping this show endlessly, and you'd think it was the second coming or something.

So who is playing the splendiferous "concert?" Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, the local "talent" from the station and "special musical guest" Lee Greenwood. Woo hoo! Where do I sign up? Honestly, is this the best they could do? And while the concert is for charity, and it is possible that they are doing some good, I am inherently suspicious of any charity headed by Ollie North.

  1. Instead of tearing off your ticket stub... they shred it.

  2. Plenty of research has been done by liberals on the subject of Hannity's Concerts and the research is unanimous in noting that not one charity rating service will give North's charity a thumb's up.

Remember when we all supposed to buy Ollie home improvements, so he could protect himself from "terrorists". Well, since he was tried and convicted of that, he decided a safer way was to play on the patriotism of Hannity listeners. According to IRS filings, less than 3% of Freedom Concert money get to a kid.

The rest is "administrative costs", most likely the private jet Hannity and friends use to get to the venue, renting the venue, fees for Hannity, North, Levin, etc. and, of course, North and his pals' yearly salaries.

The link can get you started looking into this fraud. Just remember that Sean Hannity will use anything (and we're talking dead American soldiers and Americans reactions to the dead) as a way to make a buck. He is a disgusting man.

  3. Instead of the Sean Hannity show, he should call it "The Obama Show". He just sits there and figures out how he can bash Obama for 3 hours every day, every week. Who listens to this fool?

  4. I've tried to find any type of review for the concert, but have been unable to find anything. I'm sure that the "FOX Fans" had a grand time, but I can't find any evidence.

My only hope, is that the gay pride folks and the Freedom Concert folks--both in town on the same weekend--had time to get together and express their love. Hee.

  5. Wow. A liberal questioning the integrity of a charity for kids who lost in the parents in the line of duty, the war hero who runs it, and a guy who has donated much time and money to various charities especially those surrounding our brave servicemen. It's no wonder that liberals are concerned about nothing but power and their socialistic ways. When you can't even support the kids whose parents have died in the line of duty, you truly have no business ever associating yourself with anything to do with this great nation of ours.

  6. Liberals aren't the only people who have questions about Ollie North orthe Freedom Concerts, but that is hardly my main point here.

The whole "you don't support the troops" mentality is so 2005. I didn't say or do anything to denigrate the troops or their families. If you'll read a little more closely, you'll see that I said, "it is possible that they are doing some good." That's pretty generous given the odious people involved. If everything is on the up-and-up, good for them. They need to balance the karmic scales somehow.

As for your summation of me, go pound salt. Read the Bill of Rights, jerk. Freedom of speech IS PATRIOTIC. Condemnation of unpopular (at least to you) speech is NOT.

But in case you missed it, my critique was focused much more on the lameness of the concert lineup. Any comment on that?

One more thing. . .Democrats are concerned with nothing but power? Are you KIDDING me man? Have you ever heard a word Barack Obama has said? And have you paid attention to the outrageous power grabs of the Republicans? My goodness, your blinders must be TIGHT.
